This brand was created as part of our efforts to increase awareness about sustainable seafood products, and the following five areas are testament to our commitment to consumers:
Sustainability is our mission and ultimate goal, and we want to support the industry to produce more efficiently to meet global food security demands without compromising our marine resources.
One of our goals is to help aquaculture farms to co-exist with nature. Using high-tech farming methods helps reduces unnecessary feed wastage that would otherwise pollute the surrounding waters. Shifting food production towards farmed versus caught can also help to protect wild stocks from being overfished.
The products under this brand are farmed using high-tech methods powered by AI. These bespoke algorithms allow us to feed fish with high precision based on their behaviours and appetites.
In a world striving for carbon neutrality, we’ve created solutions for farmers that have helped them reduce their overall farming footprint. We aim to expand this to multiple species and make this information available to consumers. In doing so, we want to empower them to be more proactive in environmental protection via their purchasing choices.
Our technology solutions allow us to obtain a traceable product from farm to table, and we believe that being open and transparent about the farming story will enable consumers to better understand the origins of their purchases.
Our commitment to sustainability extends beyond technology for aquaculture producers. With ecosystem protection and sustainability at the heart of what we do, we’re also looking at the industry’s environmental footprint, starting with our products. In mid-2022, we undertook a life cycle assessment※ for our ASC-certified red sea bream to determine the amount of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions produced along the product’s entire value chain. The positive results showed that over 80% of the emissions were feed-related, mainly from procuring raw materials necessary for production. In the same study, we also demonstrated that our AI-powered technologies, such as UMITRON Cell, reduced GHG emissions by 20% compared to conventional automatic feeders. This means adopting technology like ours to optimise feeding and reduce unnecessary waste would potentially reduce the negative impact on the environment in the long run while creating a more eco-friendly product.
※ A method to assess the environmental impact of a product by breaking it down by each process, from raw material procurement, production, processing, distribution, sales, and disposal.
Details of the life cycle assessmentWe’re aware that we can’t achieve our goals alone, so we want to actively engage with stakeholders from across the entire value chain and encourage them to be more involved with the current state of our oceans. From farmers to processors to chefs and consumers, we hope for them to be more proactive in taking action to ensure that delicious S.M.A.R.T-farmed seafood will be available for future generations.By creating meaningful partnerships across the industry, we believe our collective action can create a better future for our oceans and the people that depend on it.Join us to protect our oceans today for the generations of tomorrow.
Contact usWe support the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
These are not listed in any particular order. Many others have also contributed to this project, and we thank them for their support.
Using quintessentially Japanese fish as the main ingredient, we partnered with Chefs for the Blue to create recipes that bring out its best flavour. Since these Michelin-starred chefs are advocates of awareness generation for sustainable seafood in Japan, we were able to create a unique collaboration concept featuring the best of Japanese, Chinese, Western, and Asian cuisines for our crowdfunding campaign.Consumers can also access these fabulous recipes if they purchase our ASC-certified red sea bream products. We hope they will use them to level up their culinary skills to whip up delicious home-cooked meals with the knowledge that they played a positive role in ocean sustainability.
They are an advocacy group comprising over 40 top chefs across Japan from famous restaurants around Tokyo and Kyoto, many of which have been awarded Michelin stars. With restauranteur and chef of Quintessence, Mr Shuzo Kishida, at the helm, they aim to raise consumer awareness about seafood sustainability in the country.
